Grand Morning improved on his last run to follow up with another win at Ayr this afternoon. On heavy ground he was challenged by a hardened handicapper but jumping boldly he managed to fend him off in the closing stages. He will have learned again form today and is making into a nice type for his owner.
Rivabodiva showed courage in the heavy conditions and trying to make all she galloped all the way to the line but was outsprinted after the last. Her second placing reinforces her consistent form this season.
Moorstown was a disappointment. We have worked hard at home to get him sharper but after a mistake at the last in the back straight he was pulled up. We will investigate him fully as he is much better than this.
It was a fairly grim day at the races with snow and a chill wind, but all the horses seemed to come home well and while conditions were tough for spectators, the jockeys rode sensible races. Full marks to all the racecourse staff who will be trying hard to repair the track and hoping for no more rain before the Tuesday fixture.
And Scotland won the rugby!
