Derek is exceptionally skilled at breaking in young horses and he has started off with the first batch of the Class of 2018.
Pictured is 'Hinny' the thre year old Presenting filly that the Morrison Bell's bought at Tattersalls a week ago. Having been lunged with tack on she is now backed and is about to start trotting and cantering round the school. The photograph shows Thomas is getting on her for the first time.
It is a bit of a fillies year as we have another two who arrived on Wednesday; both by Shirocco one is out of the black type bumper, hurdle and chase winner Catcherinscrather and the other is out of Final Shot and is a half sister to the staying black type chaser Final Nudge. Both are being lunged and have good temperaments.
Making up the group we have our Goffs purchase 'Bruce' who is indeed a strong type and who lunged well with his tack on this morning.
Shares in both of the Shirocco fillies are for sale, and Bruce is also looking for an owner. Come and see them if you are interested.
We have just the one at Cartmel tomorrow as Present Lodger makes his return from injury in the two and a half mile chase. He should be fine on the ground and will love jumping the Cartmel fences but may find the trip on the sharp side. However, it is a good starting point for him and if he can run well then he should be useful for us this summer.
