Poor The Compeller and Derek had a heavy fall at the first at Cartmel with initial fears that they were both badly injured. Thankfully both returned battered and bruised but with no dire injury. The race was unfortunately declared void after both horse and rider were still being treated preventing the runners from passing them safely, and while it is a shame for the runners we are thankful to the track for acting quickly when the situation could have been worse.
El has been busy rehoming some of our retired racehorses and she has found some super homes for them. We take rehoming very seriously; our horses are very precious to us and we have a responsibility to be sure that they have futures where they can thrive.
With the backing of our owners we often permanent lease the horses; their new owners are totally responsible for the horses but they cannot be sold on, instead they are returned if the leasee’s circumstances change. All new homes are checked and we require a reference about the new owner.
We do sell some of the horses, but again references are required and we like to keep in touch with the horse’s progress.
All of our rehoming is carried out through the Lucinda Russell Racing Facebook page, or we can be contacted directly through the office.
Our horses give so much to us when racing that it is only right that we should be sure that they have secure homes at the end of their race careers. We are fortunate to have owners who share our beliefs and the facilities and contacts through the horse world to be sure that the horses have as good a long life as possible.
