A week of gearing up for this weekend's Open and Owners Days and for the racing that starts again for us next week.
Saturday sees the British Horse Society organised Public Open Day at Arlary and we are including a special gallop trip for the members of Tay Valley Chasers and the British Racing Club. Gates open to the public at 11am and all are welcome; entry is a £5 minimum donation in aid of the BHS and Injured Jockeys Fund.
Sunday is our annual owners' lunch and we will be having our now customary Edinburgh Gin bar and music by Ronnie. Ronnie helps us with yard upkeep and, frankly, can turn his hand to anything. When I asked him one day if he could recommend a band he replied that he had been a musician with The Stranglers amongst others and with his own band he now covers all of our parties. A man of many talents.
Another multi talented team member is Jaimie who has been my assistant since 1997and her handling of the yard logistics is incredible. She has been outstanding in organising the transport between the yard of over fifty horses to have them in the right place on the right day.
And finally, Ciorstaidh has been co ordinating the yard and horse tidy up; ever efficient (and the fastest walker that I know) she has managed to keep everyone as busy as she is and made the yard so presentable.
I am so lucky to have such a super team behind me.
On the horse front, the schooling continues as does the fast work and we have had some good pieces from a number of the early autumn horses. We are where we want to be at this time in the season and are looking forward to Perth next week and Hexham and Kelso beyond that.
I look forward to meeting everyone tomorrow and to sharing the life that we lead in the yard; it is a wonderful life.
