Racing Roundup

We have had runners at both Hexham and Kelso and some good runs amongst them.

Gemologist was unlucky to bump into the bumper winner Dollys Dot in her mares novice hurdle and while she tried hard from the front she was tapped for toe on the run in. Her second place illuminates what a consistent mare she is, and she fully deserves to win soon. In the same race Refer To Rory ran well on her first start under rules, and she should have a future over hurdles and ultimately fences.

Le Frank returned to form with a confidence boosting clear round and his fourth place will be improved upon in the autumn on softer ground. While poor The Road Home was running a super race leading over three miles until a mistake two out. After that he hung and Derek pulled him up after the last when he felt him go short. He will need time off before his next run.

Back at Kelso Ain't My Fault was second on his first start over fences and will build on this after a summer break. Buddha Scheme was outpaced but stayed on over hurdles and is another who needs softer ground. Our bumper horse Rapid Raider was keen early on then dropped back and will have a holiday before running over hurdles. Arizona Bound looked very happy over the longer distance and despite a mistake at the open ditch on the first circuit only dropped back in the final furlong. He came home with a nasty haematoma and worries of a sprung rib and is another who will need time off before a return to racing.
