Mondays are always days of assessment and planning and in mid-May with just thirty horses in work, today had a different emphasis. Pictured coming in from the first lot are Sky Khan, Boys On Tour, Prince Dundee and just hidden Royal Reserve, with Jamie following them.
Jamie still trots up all of the horses and we talk through their racing plans and work plans for the week ahead. But we are also discussing the weight gain and physical shape of those turned out in the fields on holidays and the all important jobs of cleaning and tidying the yards.
Work on our new schooling gallop is nearly complete, we have just one final load of the carpet gallop to lay and roll and then we can start to use it. It will be invaluable for schooling when the ground is too quick or frozen, and for routine work at Arlary.
Scu and I are getting ready to go to the sales tomorrow in Ireland; a healthy catalogue of three year old stores. We bought well there last year and are looking forward to seeing the horses on offer. After that is another day of stores at Doncaster next week and then the exciting horses in training sales over two days. Paul McIvor our agent is looking up the form as you read this and compiling a list of likely winners.
Before then it is Perth races and we will have a runners preview tomorrow.
