The second day of the summer sale was for form horses who had run on the flat or over obstacles. We were looking specifically for an ex flat horse to go juvenile hurdling, were delighted to acquire two and also could not resist buying an older chaser to have fun with in staying chases and cross country races.
There was a wide variety of horses on offer, and again Paul had made a comprehensive list of likely types. We also used Morten Buskops information and Eugenio checked the veterinary records for us remotely. Unusually for jump prospects many of the horses had x rays submitted and it was astonishing how many had poor joints; we crossed off half a dozen due to bad vettings. We also used Morten's vet to scan any that we were interested in and again excluded a couple from our list.
Our first purchase was the three year old Exchequer who was placed on the flat and looks ideal for sharp tracks like Musselburgh and Perth. With a good blend of speed and stamina he has the option of being dual purpose and while he lacks condition at the moment this was reflected in his very reasonable price of 12,000 euros. He has the added bonus of being grey. See his pedigree HERE.
Under Morten's recomendation we then bought the seven year old Caboy, pictured; a four time chase winner he has plenty of ability and while he needs a change of scene to freshen up we reckon that our work at Kilduff and the team here will be able to take him back to the top of his game. He is a great mover and impressed our vet on the day so we were very happy to buy him for just 16,000 euros. See his pedigree HERE.
Finally Tom Malone bought us a three year old by Mastercraftsman for an existing owner to go juvenile hurdling. Balranald has won and been placed on the flat and is from the family of successful young sires Shirocco and September Storm. See his pedigree HERE.
