Kelso Thirds Gives Lots Of Optimism For The Season

It is important to the team here that we start the season with horses in their best condition and we have been buoyed by the recent runs. At Kelso we had further progress with some improved performances from our early season runners.

Aurora Thunder had been a bit erratic on her hurdle debut but having had plenty of schooling round our new carpet gallop she was foot perfect on this her second run over hurdles and we were delighted how she stayed on to be third. A stayer for the future she should have plenty of fun in mares novice hurdles this year.

Exit To Where was rather over enthusiastic to be back racing, but a slip at the first settled his ideas and he got in to a nice rhythm with Thomas jumping neatly. Looking set to be placed, probably second, he got low at the last, blundering and unseating Thomas in the process. He will have other days and the Northern Lights final will be his aim.

Izzy’s Champion was unsettled and tense at Bangor last time, so we added a hood to help him switch off and it had the required effect. We were a little unsure about the best trip for this young horse but seeing the way that he stayed on well from the last to be third he stamped himself as one to try further next time.

Effet Special will likely have to borrow Champ’s hood for his next run as he was very headstrong in his first chase start since the spring. Poor chap got himself into trouble rushing his fences and while he eventually settled he needs to relax through his races. He is a work in progress.
