Pre Musselburgh And Some Yard News

The wet weather does not dampen the spirits of those on the yard and kitted in our Musto Edinburgh Gin waterproofs we continue to work the horses on the woodchip and grass gallops and schooling on the carpet. It does mean that the ground staff has plenty of muddy horses, tack and rugs to deal with, but keeping the horses warm and dried off is the priority. Pictured is Rising Marianbard schooling on the carpet with Ailsa.

We have added to our office staff with the return of Tracy Anson; she will take on the owner liaison and help with community outreach and yard promotion. Matthew can then concentrate on his projects, the relationship with our sponsors, Edinburgh Gin, acting as a liaison between the two yards, Arlary and Kilduff and supporting the team at Kilduff, as well as riding out and driving for us. With Fiona taking care of the accounts and wages and Paul looking after race planning and new horse search we have a strong team for administration.

On the horse front, we have a couple of new additions, a very classy Shirocco four year old who is related to some black type stayers, and the two year old She's A Steal by Flemensfirth. We also have some returning to training from enforced breaks; Vinos Choice, The Compeller, Shanroe Street and Cockle Bay. All of the new starts have been walking and trotting on the roads and are now heading to Kilduff for some work on the water treadmill and to trot around the farm.

Meanwhile, we have seven runners heading to Musselburgh tomorrow a mix of novices and more experienced horses.

Our novice hurdler Last King Of Wales is trying this sharper track as he seems to travel well into his races but flatten out on the home straight. Balranald our juvenile hurdler has his first start for Jimmy Fyffe and we will know more about him after this run. Gripper and Gemologist are both still maidens but seem to run well at Musselburgh and are in the two mile handicap hurdle as is the Tay Valley Chasers grey, Touchedbyanangel.

We also run two novice chasers; The Road Home has experience chasing and has some good form around Musselburgh, and Izzy's Champion has his first chase start.
