Calle Malva Wins At Hexham

Calle Malva hinted at the fun that is to be had with her when winning the two and a half mile maiden hurdle at Hexham this afternoon. Just a four year old her trainer was worried about the heavy ground and trip for her at this stage, but she allayed those fears to travel well and produced to perfection by Blair, galloped to the front to win by a couple of lengths. Her jumping is still green; she jumps bigger than necessary, but her attitude is fabulous and I think she could progress rapidly over the next few months. There are shares in her available, see our for sale page, but please be quick as she is popular. It was a memorable day for one of her owners, Carron Wymer, for whom this is a first step into ownership; no better way to start!

We were also over the moon with another mare's first run back after a long break; Haul Us In. Enjoying the soft going she galloped away in the lead and was unlucky to be challenged and just passed by a tough filly of Donald Whillans. Of course, Haul Us In will improve for this run and her owners Julian and Karenina should have some fun days ahead.

Celtic Flames ran a super race, also after a long holiday, to be third; he just needs to brush up his jumping and he should be back winning again. It is great for Willie and Pat to be back in the winners enclosure with him.

We also had a fourth, OrionInverness finding it hard to travel and jump out of the deep ground with top weight. He is better than this though and should be closer next time.

Arizona Bound was not enamored by the going and having dropped back was pulled up by Stephen; we will see how he is in the morning. Unfortunately, Emissaire unseated Blair at the first, but he was soon caught and may take up his engagement at Carlisle on Sunday.

Tomorrow morning the lorry will be on its way to Newcastle where we have two runners. Speak Of The Devil jumped up the tyres again this morning to get his mind ready for the three mile chase; he has lots of stamina and should relish the soft ground.

In the bumper we run a super little horse, Petite Rhapsody. By Shirocco he has shown a great attitude in all of his work, coping with all that we have asked of him. He is from the same producer as Calle Malva so we are hoping that he can run as well as her.
