It has been a varied week on and off the yard with some solid efforts racing and plenty of coming and going.
Mint Gold and Book Of Invasions ran solid races at Uttoxeter on their chase debuts. Mint's third place was particularly pleasing and we feel that both horses will improve with the experiences that they had.
We have a couple more runners in the next few days; tomorrow at Uttoxeter Gripper tries to make amends for a fall when in the lead at Perth a month ago; this is a slightly better race but he seems sharp at home.
Then on Sunday at Cartmel, we have three runners. Starting with Signifiant who makes his return to fences in a decent race; worth £15,000 it is a great pot to aim at, although for Signifiant it will be a learning experience on just his second chase start. However, we have high hopes for him this season and this is as good a starting point as any.
We run two in the three mile handicap chase; Elmono carries top weight so Blair claims a few pounds off him; he ran a cracker here last month and seemed to enjoy the track. Shanroe Street is having his first run since a close second in February and his first try around Cartmel; a natural stayer he should find the long run-in to his advantage.
While Covid restrictions meant we did not travel to the rescheduled Tattersalls Derby Sale we still managed to purchase a lovely three year old through Mags O'Toole.as recommended by Tom Malone. Out of Big River's full sister, the Getaway gelding is strong but very light on his feet. We looked at a few others but were guided by Mags and are happy with just the one purchase at the sale.
Our next sales outing is on Monday to Tattersalls again but this time in Newmarket, where their August sale is three days of flat bred horses, many of whom could make jumpers or dual purpose horses. Paul McIvor has made a good list of possible selections and I can email it to any interested purchasers. See the catalogue HERE
There are plans afoot for crowds to be allowed back to Scottish racetracks soon, and this along with a return to pre Covid prizemoney from September is making the future look a little brighter. Our next jumps meeting is Perth on 30th August and they have secured extra prize funding from Bet 365, and also ITV Racing coverage. The effort put into getting things back to normal and better for owners is starting to show small rewards and the whole yard is feeling optimistic for the autumn and beyond.
