Aurora Thunder is developing into a useful filly as she continues her progress in novice hurdle races. Having been given time to develop by her owners she hurdled well and stayed on all the way to the line to be denied by under a length. She has a nice long term target for the spring, but before then she has the tenacity to return to the winners spot maybe over further.
We were also delighted…
On to Kelso with eight horses on their Borders Chase day.
We start with two novice hurdlers; Destiny Is All is dropping back in trip having failed to stay on heavy ground at Hexham the past twice. A young horse who travels well in his races he just needs to strengthen before going chasing. Tarset Hinny a well bred mare by Presenting ran with promise in her bumper and makes her hurdling debut…
It was always going to be a day of tests for our horses today but they all performed with great credit.
Ain't My Fault stepped up well into 0-140 handicap company and I thought that his jumping became better and better through the race. His second placed to a well regarded horse is an achievement and he continues on the upgrade.
Charmix ran a blinder at Aintree on his comeback, jumping…
It was a bit of a tough race for Le Frank today at Sandown but he ran with credit to be midfield and will find things easier on heavy ground.
We have a busy few days coming up with Aintree and Wetherby tomorrow and Kelso on Sunday.
One For Arthur, pictured with Ailsa, runs in the Becher Case tomorrow and is off a nice weight of 11stone 2lbs. He has been in great form at home and…
Speak Of The Devil blundered away his chance when unseating Stephen at the second fence at Haydock. While the race conditions had changed with four fences out of the back straight and ground that was closer to good to soft than soft, we were still looking forward to Devil taking his chance. Thankfully he was caught by Jaimie after a circuit so did not have a hard day and may run again soon.
An ease in the weather and we have been working hard at home again with plenty of fresh horses after the abandonment of Musselburgh and some welcome race meetings on the horizon.
Working on the grass this morning were a mix of horses who had missed recent races and a couple of those who have aims in the next ten days; Izzy's Champion, Blooriedotcom, Eeyore, Destiny Is All, The Road Home,…
We are glad to have worked the horses on the grass last week while it was mild as the recent frosts have changed our focus back to the woodchip and just trotting on the thick grassland. The horses are fresh after their work and we are looking forward to a few more race meetings this week.
Having said that Musselburgh looks under threat of being off through the frost, which would lose some…
Exit To Where found the combination of a steady early pace and the longer distance all a bit much for him at Sedgefield and was pulled up before the third last; while a stayer in the future he is possibly better over shorter for now.
At home, we have taken advantage of the wet weather to work on the grass, including over our one mile six gallop. We find it so useful to assess horses, particularly…
Touchedbyanangel looked competitive at Musselburgh until the final hurdle where he could only stay on one paced and he may be feeling the effects of a long summer. He will likely have a good break and will be back out in the spring to contest races at Perth, his owners, the Tay Valley Chasers' local track. TVC have the chaser OrionInverness for the winter and he may run at Newcastle on Saturday;…
Apologies for the lack of news; a minor glitch. We have had some good runs over the past week including Speak Of The Devil who made a strong bid to win his first chase, but had to settle for second place. This was an excellent effort from the lightly raced gelding and there are plenty more good runs to come from him. He is pictured leading the string down the gallops on Saturday.
