Precious Cargo Wins Impressively At Ayr

We know that we have a good bunch of bumper and novice horses for this year and Precious Cargo looks one of the best after sluicing home at Ayr in the bumper this afternoon. Keen for the first mile and a half he settled entering the straight and Derek was able to extend him for a super win. Cargo is a huge horse and while he needs to learn to race more evenly he has plenty of ability. He will likely go…

Newtown Lad Bounces Back To Be Second And Pre Ayr

We were delighted to see Newtown Lad bounce back to form to be a close second at Newcastle this afternoon. Jumping well he was in the front two throughout and was just denied by a hardened course lover. Having had the full team here working hard to put his issues behind him, he rewarded them and his owners with a good round of jumping and he will be sharper again for this run. He has an entry in…

Trot Ups Weigh Ins And Water Treadmills

A routine Monday with trot ups and weigh-ins for all the horses in the yards and an assessment meeting between Jamie, Ciorstaidh and myself. We also go through the next race opportunities and with the weather looking more favourable we can return to planning each horse's next few targets.

We also had a meeting regarding the new water treadmill that is due to arrive in February; we are delighted…

Youngsters Working

We had an important work morning today as we gave the four year olds their first bit of work on the grass, the video of them working is on the home page.

Having been broken in this summer the 'Class of 2017' have covered many miles around the farm and on the gallops. Mostly at half speed with just a couple of sharper bits up the woodchip, they are all settled, strong and ready to step up…

Highland Hunter Wins At Kelso

We feel that we have a lovely group of young horses for the future and were delighted when Highland Hunter won on his first start for us in the bumper at Kelso. Despite being mildly green he led at a sensible gallop until quickening at the end of the back straight. He was briefly headed in the final furlong but toughed it out to win by a head, pictured. We know the form of the second placed horse…

Freedom And Pre Kelso

Despite the muddy conditions, we had a very happy horse (and connections) when One For Arthur was allowed out in the field this morning. Having had four months in a box, and walking he is now due a few weeks turnout before work starts on the water treadmill. His tendon has scanned well and he is on target for a return to pre training in the late summer. He is pictured getting muddy and being tolerated…

Round Up And The Last Of The Snow

There has been quite desperate weather for the past few days but today things got a degree better with just heavy rain.

Our weekend was not quite as planned; Forest Des Aigles did not stay the three and a bit miles at Haydock and was pulled up, while Le Frank found the heavy and a step up to handicap company a bit much. Meanwhile, at Ascot, it rained and rained and Thorpe did not like the…

Double At Musselburgh For Misfits And Jump For Dough

It was a day for celebrations with Misfits, pictured, at last winning over fences and Jump For Dough comprehensibly doubling up.

It has taken us some time to agree on the right trip for Misfits, but three miles is definitely his favoured distance and this afternoon he travelled sweetly, jumping rapidly and galloping all the way to the line. With his confidence high he should be able to…

Pre Gerry's 50th Day At Musselburgh

Still a bit of snow around and it was a shame to see that Newcastle has had snow today too; it will be terrible to lose another meeting.

There is an early morning inspection at Musselburgh and I hope that it goes ahead for us, and for Gerry Mcgladery who sponsors all but one of the races in celebration of his fiftieth birthday. There will be a good party there!

We start with the…

All The Way To Rasen

Ayr was off due to more rain, so we packed two horses into the lorry and Jaimie and Steve drove them to Market Rasen last night. Avoiding the chaos on the M74 they arrived safe and sound and the journey was not wasted.

Bialco is a gorgeous grey who has lots of scope and has a few options coming up in the spring. He was due to run over hurdles at Ayr to try a new trip of three miles, but…
