Grand Morning Wins Again At Ayr

Grand Morning improved on his last run to follow up with another win at Ayr this afternoon. On heavy ground he was challenged by a hardened handicapper but jumping boldly he managed to fend him off in the closing stages. He will have learned again form today and is making into a nice type for his owner.

Rivabodiva showed courage in the heavy conditions and trying to make all she galloped…

Pointing And Pre Ayr

We are very proud of the quality of the riders here and as well as the professional jockeys we have a number of amateur and point to point jockeys working each day on the yards. By using good riders the horses are exercised correctly and we have very few horses who misbehave in their training.

Today four of our staff had rides at the Jedforest point to point; Ailsa McClung, Leanne Williamson,…

Itstimeforapint Wins At Bangor

We were over the moon with Itstimeforapint's win at Bangor this afternoon; travelling sweetly in his first time blinkers and jumping boldly. He stays well and though he was a bit lonely in front before the line he pulled out enough to win for Ian, Eddie and Mike. He will probably look at another staying chase, possibly at Hexham in March.

Scu and I listened to the Bangor commentary in the…

A Return To Winter

Snow again this morning and we were thankful for the all weather gallops and tenacity of the staff and horses that keep the show on the road. Pictured is Moorstown leading Rivabodiva, Vertigo and the rest of the second lot up the gallops at Kilduff.

We had a brief flirtation with declaring for a soon to be abandoned Carlisle then Scu updated the entry list following our recent runs and handicap…

Musselburgh And Newcastle

A couple of misses over the past few days although there were some solid runs.

At Musselburgh Celtic Flames was given a super ride by Derek, nursed into the race after a few tricky jumps early on, and he had just accelerated to join the leader at the last when he fell; thankfully Celtic only added a few stitches to his veterinary record this time. He looked happier on the better ground…

Kelpies Myth Wins At Musselburgh Cheltenham Trials Saturday

Kelpies Myth won this afternoon at Musselburgh in his first attempt at a handicap. Keen early on, he hurdled really swiftly and despite being a few lengths down at the last he stayed on under a power-driven ride by Derek. It is a first winner for the owner group Bolton, Mcgladery, Duncan Black and there should be more to follow. Vinos Choice was far too keen and paid the penalty later on; he will…

Where's Tiger Third And NHRE Club Visit

Where's Tiger looked outpaced up the run in at Catterick coming third on his second start over fences. Unfortunately, he finished a bit sore and will have time to recover.

At home, we welcomed the National Hunt Racing Enthusiasts club to the yard, pictured. A Facebook based group, the members are knowledgeable and enthusiastic and they had a full tour of the yard and gallops and some refreshments…

Precious Cargo Wins Impressively At Ayr

We know that we have a good bunch of bumper and novice horses for this year and Precious Cargo looks one of the best after sluicing home at Ayr in the bumper this afternoon. Keen for the first mile and a half he settled entering the straight and Derek was able to extend him for a super win. Cargo is a huge horse and while he needs to learn to race more evenly he has plenty of ability. He will likely go…

Newtown Lad Bounces Back To Be Second And Pre Ayr

We were delighted to see Newtown Lad bounce back to form to be a close second at Newcastle this afternoon. Jumping well he was in the front two throughout and was just denied by a hardened course lover. Having had the full team here working hard to put his issues behind him, he rewarded them and his owners with a good round of jumping and he will be sharper again for this run. He has an entry in…

Trot Ups Weigh Ins And Water Treadmills

A routine Monday with trot ups and weigh-ins for all the horses in the yards and an assessment meeting between Jamie, Ciorstaidh and myself. We also go through the next race opportunities and with the weather looking more favourable we can return to planning each horse's next few targets.

We also had a meeting regarding the new water treadmill that is due to arrive in February; we are delighted…
