Momkinzain For Rehoming

We had an exciting work day at Arlary this morning with a quick three times up for most of the horses, and some progressive work from Deepsand, Jump For Dough, Tantamount, Superior Command, Prince Dundee, Blue Baton, Thorpe and Where's Tiger.

Thorpe and Where's Tiger's owners were in to watch, Lady Jane and Michael Kaplan. They also saw Tiger having his first jump down a grid in the sand…

Back On The Yard And Behindthelines

While Steve and El looked after Ballycool at Bangor, Scu and I stayed at home to watch the horses work.

Ballycool ran a super race until just struggling to quicken in the final few furlongs, but his fourth place is a credit to him and he will probably be back over slightly further at the end of the month.

It was a routine canter day and it was really good to see the improvement…

Rivabodiva And Vengeur De Guye Make It A Double At Ayr

While consistent, Rivabodiva has taken time to win over hurdles and it was excellent to see her sprint away up the Ayr run-in this afternoon. She has come back from a summer break better than ever and she has given her owners, Mark and Susie Russell and her young jockey Thomas Willmott a day to remember. It was Thomas' first win under rules and knowing this articulate, focused, hard working boy…

Aintree And Pre Ayr

Vertigo did not stay the three mile trip at Aintree today; he is a genuine hurdler who wears his heart on his sleeve and travels strongly but he just finds the three miles too tough. There will be other days for him.

The bandwagon rolls on to Ayr tomorrow and we have seven runners.

The novice hurdlers, Templenaboe, Saint Freule and Chasseur De Tetes all have ability. Templenaboe…

Big River Makes Big Impression When Winning At Kelso

Big River had his task made easier after the odds on favourite unseated, but we were impressed by his slick jumping when winning the novice chase at Kelso this afternoon. A decent hurdler he has taken his first step towards becoming the high rated novice chaser that I hope that he can be, and there were happy scenes in the winners enclosure. Big River is owned by the Two Black Labs, and they are…

Pre Kelso And Cheltenham

Nine runners over tomorrow with seven at Kelso and two nice bumper types at Cheltenham.

Starting at Kelso we have three novice hurdlers: point winner Hey Listen who should appreciate the better ground, and debutantes Star Of Milan and Vino's Choice. Star Of Milan is out of Innovate who we trained for Peter Dale, and Star is his last homebred. A very tall unfurnished type he will need much…

Rossamilan Fourth At Carlisle

A bit of a missing the target day at Carlisle, but some promise from all of the runners.

Rossamilan looked at home over the fences and while he stood small chance in a competitive race with three horses rated 135, he jumped with enthusiasm until outpaced. His run gives us hope for the future and he may be getting the hang of racing under rules. He is pictured with Mark in the winners' enclosure.

Mumgos…

Jumping In The Rain

It was wet first thing this morning, although the sun came out while we were schooling leading to some atmospheric scenes. Pictured are Ballycool, Rossamilan and Jump For Dough schooling up the big tyres. All three are penciled in to run over fences in the next week, with Rossamilan and Jump For Dough making their chase debuts.

We schooled Alizee De Janeiro, Templenaboe, Vertigo, Ceegem,…

Warm Up For IJF Olympia Showjumping

We were back down South in our campervan yesterday evening for Scu to meet with the rest of his team this morning in preparation for the IJF Olympia Jockeys Challenge on 15th December.

Captained by AP McCoy, the team of Scu, John Francome and Richard Dunwoody, pictured, practiced on four wonderful horses in front of Graham and Tina Fletcher. Also present was Alastair Down who wrote, as ever,…

Monday Yard Catch Up

A great morning on the yard, catching up with all the news from yesterday and making plans for the week.

Headed by Assistant Jamie Turnbull we went through every horse with Ciorstaidh, discussing their stages in training, their weight and their race aims. We have plenty of race meetings coming up at the end of the week and onwards and it is important that the horses are ready for their…
