Today we welcomed the Angus Pony Club to the yard for a tour of the yard and gallops. Hosted by Scu they had a good few hours looking around the two yards and hopefully they have come away inspired to be involved in racing.
Anne Macinnes and Mark and Susie Russell were also in to see their horses and to see some of the new horses who have arrived.
Yesterday evening Eric Gillie delivered…
Were you at Perth last week? Did you see Vino's Choice, ridden by Tom Scudamore, win the bumper with ease? Tipped off by Tom we have bought the five year old gelding privately and he is for sale.
Vino's Choice is by Kalanisi and a very athletic, good moving young gelding. He is still maturing but has shown both a good attitude and plenty of ability by striding away from the field last week…
Work hard, party harder sort of sums up today.
First thing Colin and Nicola Drysdale came in to Kilduff to see their bumper winner Mighty Thunder and three year old Aurora Thunder, both by Malinas. We have good plans for Mighty and while he is still inexperienced we hope that he will be a decent prospect for the winter. Aurora, or Neena as she is known at home, is following the same pattern…
Sunshine and showers best describe the weather at Arlary and Kilduff and result in a constant battle to keep the right combination of waterproofs or tee shirts. We still have a couple of people on holiday and it was great to catch up another ex Arlary member this morning when Tiffany came back in to ride out. Tiff used to ride out and work part time in the office but has been living and riding out…
Thorpe has had his issues in the past, including recovery from a colic operation, but he seems to be coming back to his best and he won with confidence this afternoon at Perth. It was his second win this summer for his owners Lady Jane and Michael Kaplan; Jane is on the committee at Perth Racecourse so it is great to train winners for her at Perth.
Near To Tears ran a cracking race stepped…
It is pretty much more of the same on the yards with many miles being covered by the horses. Many have come to the end of their trotting weeks so are now cantering and with the rain over the past few days we are able to canter around the farm at Kilduff. he photograph shows four coming up the woodchip at Kilduff having been out for an hour; Green Flag and Spoils Of War (very naughty on his first…
Miss Joeking did not cope with the sharp track nor softer going at Cartmel, however her jumping was sound and she will be fine returned to a more staying track.
As the sun beats down this morning the work of the pre trainers is being increased and we have twenty four who have completed their four weeks trotting and are now starting steady cantering. We also had a couple start work again…
We had a social day yesterday with members of the Kestrel Partnership coming to see Cockle Bay. Sheila, Mary, and Luke saw him on the gallops having one of his first canters and were delighted with the physical progress that he has made. Our pre training program is extensive but it is producing the results that we had hoped for and it is satisfying when owners can see the improvement too. Cockle…
Eugenio Cillan Garcia is a big part of the team here at Arlary, and not only does he vet on the yard, but he also travels to the sales with us and to pre purchase horses that we buy privately. He is also a racecourse vet and it is reassuring that he is often at the track when our horses run. His experience and professional skills are outstanding and he keeps our horses on the road and healthy, and…
We had a good run from Devito'sgoldengirl who was third this afternoon at Perth. In what could turn out to be one of the better novice hurdles so far this summer at Perth, she hurdled like a pro but was just caught for toe over the two miles. She will be better suited to further and will be back at Perth later on in August for her enthusiastic owners, the Tay Valley Chasers. She is pictured on the…
