Panic Over

So after a week of biosecurity, temperature taking, endless swabs and running the two yards separately, we were informed this afternoon that we were clear to resume racing.

It has been a tough week for everyone connected to the yards. The extra workload for all, especially those on the ground whose horse care has been top class, and the stress imposed by extra regulation and not knowing…

Equine Flu

Late last night we were informed by the BHA that there had been three positive cases of equine influenza in vaccinated racehorses. To prevent the risk of it spreading further all meetings were cancelled today.

There is no indication yet to how long racing will be affected. Decisions on if racing can take place on Friday will be taken later this evening.

All trainers who had horses…

Goodbye January And Pre Ayr

Goodbye to January and hello to February and as I write the rain has started so we could be about to see some proper winter jumping on soft ground at last.

Our horses are freshening up for the next few weeks and we have just about finished all the clipping on the yard, with a few of the horses starting to show the gleam of their summer coats coming through.

The BHA has given a replacement…

A frosty few days leading to super sunrises and lots of atmospheric photographs from the gallops.

The woodchip is in good shape and with regular harrowing, it retains its bounce and consistency. Winter always brings extra work for everyone, as the taps tend to freeze and our automatic water drinkers stop working, however, the problems are easily overcome and it is thanks to the team of…

Methodtothemadness Shows Promise And Other Weekend Happenings

Methodtothemadness showed lots of promise when third in her mares bumper at Doncaster, settling really well and showing a good attitude to gallop to the line. This run will have done her confidence good and she will probably head to the mares EBF final at Sandown in March.

At Cheltenham, Forest Des Aigles jumped swiftly and was produced for his run two out but could not quite quicken on…

New Faces And Pre Saturday Runners

We had a successful day at Goffs sales, purchasing a smart type in the five year old Lucky Flight, pictured. The easy winner of his four year old point to point in Ireland last month, this precocious type earned a high rating of 92++ having shown bold jumping and a high cruising speed. He is by the French sire Linda's Lad and has a strong winning pedigree. He is for sale in shares; please see his…

Close Up At Kelso

We had some great runs at Kelso this afternoon from both the young and more mature horses.

Sky Khan, pictured, has been a superstar for the yard, being placed at the Cheltenham Festival, Aintree and Punchestown and this afternoon he showed that the old spark is still there when second in the feature handicap hurdle. Held up, as usual, he was a little outpaced a mile out but then stayed on…

Pre Kelso And Goffs UK Sales

After a productive day at home, we are ready for Kelso tomorrow and have a lovely broodmare on her way to the Goffs sales at Doncaster.

Kelso still has good ground and our small team who like those conditions are ready for their outings there.

Mighty Thunder was a good winner last time at Kelso, despite being slowly away in the first half a mile. We have added cheekpieces tomorrow…

A Busy Weekend Racing With Mixed Results

The team had a busy weekend racing with some mixed results but lots of positives to be taken from the runs.

At Haydock One For Arthur was running a solid race until unseating Derek four out. Despite muttering from some quarters that Arthur had not been travelling through the race, we were not surprised to see him outpaced and were very hopeful as he came into the home straight passing the…

Looking Forward To Racing Tomorrow

After losing Musselburgh to frost today we are all looking forward to racing this weekend.

We had another camera crew in this morning, this time from Bet 365 and they endured the cold temperatures to take footage throughout the day. They are pictured interviewing Scu in the walled garden, with Cheetah not taking much part.

Jaimie and Steve left at lunchtime for Haydock where we have…
