Tay Valley Chasers
One of Scotland’s most exciting Racing Clubs continues to go from strength to strength. Based in Perth and formed in 2007 with nothing more than an idea, the club has a membership limited at 100 and its horses have won TWENTY TIMES since formation with numerous placed finishes as well.
The club currently owns two horses, ORIONINVERNESS and TOUCHEDBYANANGEL.
ORIONINVERNESS has size and presence and was always going to be a staying chaser, so after a handful of runs in bumpers and over hurdles for experience he switched to chasing in the autumn of 2016. It took him a bit of time to get fully up to speed over fences but he came good at Hexham the following March, winning a two-and-a-half mile handicap chase by 5 lengths. Further success arrived with victory over the same trip at Newcastle in April 2018, Borris (stable name) galloping on resolutely in the testing conditions to score by a resounding 14 lengths, but it was in the 2018/19 season that he really began to showcase his talents. He reappeared over two and a half miles at Perth's finale meeting in September and showed significantly improved form to overturn the 2/5 favourite trained by Gordon Elliott, seizing the advantage turning for home and holding on gamely to win by a short-head. He was unable to add to his tally for the remainder of the campaign but finished out of the first four only once in five subsequent starts, performing to a consistent level in defeat. His form has dipped of late although he did finish runner-up at Hexham in October 2019 and he slipped to a very attractive handicap mark as a result. After a prep run at Perth in August, he then returned to form with a bang, winning at Perth in September. He is in great form and should continue to give the club something to shout about through the winter.

A real summer jumping type who loves good ground, TOUCHEDBYANANGEL was purchased at the Goffs UK Autumn Sale at Doncaster in October 2018 as a replacement for Maraweh and as the perfect counterpart for Orioninverness who is very much at home when the mud is flying thus giving club members an interest all year round. A grey gelding by Beneficial, he only started racing in December 2017 but wasted little time in racking up three wins over hurdles in his first season in Ireland, his victories coming at Downpatrick (twice) and Kilbeggan. He has found life tougher since switching to Britain, arriving with an inflated handicap mark and not having conditions to suit on a couple of occasions, but there have been signs of promise, most notably his second behind a gambled-on rival at Perth in September 2019. A winner between two miles and two miles three furlongs, he likes a sharp right-handed track making Perth the perfect port of call, and having enjoyed a good break since running at Musselburgh last November, 'Angel' is fresh and raring to go for another summer/autumn campaign.
