Ask The Tycoon Shows Promise And Pre Carlisle

Ask The Tycoon has a super attitude and although the trip was too short for him he hurdled brilliantly and tried to quicken in the home straight. His third placing was credit to his raw talent and he should be a good prospect for Mark and Susie Russell

Well Above Par did not travel as he can and was a bit careful at his fences. It could be that his fall at Ayr has knocked his confidence…

Pre Saturday Runners

Two runners at Newcastle and two at Bangor this Saturday.

We have always really liked Well Above Par and in time he should be one if our good long distance chasers, but at just five years old we are going to look after him with the future in mind. Thus he has been given time to get over his last run and we think that two and a half miles is far enough for him at the moment . He takes on…

Simone Oh So Close

It was a strong run from Simone in the mares novice hurdle where she traveled and jumped so much better on good ground than she did last time on soft. She was denied a win just at the line and will be better again over further.

Jump For Dough, fourth,  ran better than on his chase debut but the fences are still an effort for him at this stage and we may go back over hurdles next time. Hey…

Dancing Amy Third And Pre Musselburgh

Dancing Amy ran a solid race to be third in her mares bumper just being slightly green in the home straight. She looks to have a good future and she may go over hurdles now.

The ground was pretty heavy and neither The Road Home nor Thorpe handled it although their jumping was sound.

We will get different conditions tomorrow at Musselburgh where we have a few chances.

Schooling And Pre Wetherby

In between the frosts, we have been schooling some of the novices and we are really pleased with their progress. We are lucky to have Derek and the boys to school for us; their positivity, bravery, and confidence are infectious and the young horses all improved through their sessions. Jumping were Where's Tiger, Chanceiton, Jump For Dough, Hey Listen, The Road Home, Newtown Lad, Thepensionfund,…

Big River At Haydock

Having been so excited about Big River running at Haydock we were surprised and saddened to see him struggle to travel on the ground, making the jumping an effort for him. Derek wisely pulled him up down the back straight and while he was sound on arrival back at the wash off, the vets found that he had atrial fibrillation.

Big River had this two seasons ago and it was corrected with electrical cardioversion,…

Pre Haydock

A quick morning update for Big River's chances at Haydock.

We have been really pleased with Big River at home and he takes his chance at Haydock in the Graduation Chase at Haydock over 2m5f on heavy ground.

Being a graduation chase he is against a number of second season chasers so lacks their experience.  However if the ratings are taken literally then he is a couple of pounds…

Celtic Flames Wins On His Chase Debut

Celtic Flames has tested his owners' and trainer's patience with a number of different issues, but it all came right for him today as he jumped with enthusiasm and precision on his chase debut to win at Hexham. I was not sure about the going, but he coped well. As he strengthens with racing he should be able to follow up for Willie and Pat Scott who are pictured with the Racing To School group.

Pre Hexham

Lots of rain and we had a good morning around the fields at the farm then sprinting up the all weather, while those at Arlary had a couple of canters to warm them up for tomorrow's work day. Pictured is Thepensionfund and Scu cantering up the grass, led by Jack Steel and Lorraine.

We have four runners at Hexham tomorrow starting with Celtic Flames who schooled this morning with Big River.…

Fresh Horses And Feeding Rules

Monday mornings are great as we get back into the routine for the week and with fresh horses, the runners performing well and some new faces there is a good buzz about the place.

Some welcome rain meant that we could school and Le Frank, Thepensionfund and Newtown Lad were all ridden by Derek over the hurdles and small fences.

The new four year old Timesawaiting was very fresh…
