Celtic Flames ran a much better race to be fourth, settling well and showing a good attitude in the closing stages. It is taking time for him to come together after a long time off but today was definitely a step forward. He will be schooled over fences again and we are looking forward to his next run. A super day at Ayr for the yard with two nice wins and a good third.
Miss Tiggy, pictured, won the mares novice hurdle after over a year off to give her patient owner John Adam & Sons Ltd a deserved first win with this scopey mare. Over a year ago Miss Tiggy went lame behind and a stress fracture of her hind cannon needed to be screwed. Eugenio from the Edinburgh University Vets carried…
We have four runners tomorrow at Ayr on heavy ground.
Miss Tiggy starts our runners off in the mares hurdle; she has shown ability over hurdles in particular at Kelso over two and a half miles, and this season she has strengthened up. We are hoping to go chasing later on, but having had time off with a hind leg injury we will start her gently over the smaller obstacles.
We have had a couple of youngsters arrive on the yard for some pre-training and breaking.
'May' is a three year old half sister to Charlie's Lass out of Oh So Beautiful and by Shantou. Bred by Geoff Brown she has been broken in by Angie and has come to us for some pre raining and to learn about racing. She is a feisty girl but has been well produced by Angie and she should be a tough race…
We had an exciting work day at Arlary this morning with a quick three times up for most of the horses, and some progressive work from Deepsand, Jump For Dough, Tantamount, Superior Command, Prince Dundee, Blue Baton, Thorpe and Where's Tiger.
Thorpe and Where's Tiger's owners were in to watch, Lady Jane and Michael Kaplan. They also saw Tiger having his first jump down a grid in the sand…
While Steve and El looked after Ballycool at Bangor, Scu and I stayed at home to watch the horses work.
Ballycool ran a super race until just struggling to quicken in the final few furlongs, but his fourth place is a credit to him and he will probably be back over slightly further at the end of the month.
It was a routine canter day and it was really good to see the improvement…
While consistent, Rivabodiva has taken time to win over hurdles and it was excellent to see her sprint away up the Ayr run-in this afternoon. She has come back from a summer break better than ever and she has given her owners, Mark and Susie Russell and her young jockey Thomas Willmott a day to remember. It was Thomas' first win under rules and knowing this articulate, focused, hard working boy…
Vertigo did not stay the three mile trip at Aintree today; he is a genuine hurdler who wears his heart on his sleeve and travels strongly but he just finds the three miles too tough. There will be other days for him.
The bandwagon rolls on to Ayr tomorrow and we have seven runners.
The novice hurdlers, Templenaboe, Saint Freule and Chasseur De Tetes all have ability. Templenaboe…
Big River had his task made easier after the odds on favourite unseated, but we were impressed by his slick jumping when winning the novice chase at Kelso this afternoon. A decent hurdler he has taken his first step towards becoming the high rated novice chaser that I hope that he can be, and there were happy scenes in the winners enclosure. Big River is owned by the Two Black Labs, and they are…
Nine runners over tomorrow with seven at Kelso and two nice bumper types at Cheltenham.
Starting at Kelso we have three novice hurdlers: point winner Hey Listen who should appreciate the better ground, and debutantes Star Of Milan and Vino's Choice. Star Of Milan is out of Innovate who we trained for Peter Dale, and Star is his last homebred. A very tall unfurnished type he will need much…
