We have two runners at Cartmel this afternoon, with West End Lady joined by Pasture Beach who has been re-routed from Kelso yesterday owing to ground conditions.
Twice-raced over hurdles, Pasture Beach showed a nice bit of improvement to be fourth at Hexham last time, though will need to progress again to play a leading role in the 2m1f mares’ novices’ hurdle and is a staying handicapper in the making.
West End Lady hasn’t been at her best recently, but there were some encouraging signs come the finish at Ayr last time as she rallied late to claim fifth. We’re trying her back over a longer trip in the 3m1f mares’ handicap hurdle, and although she has stamina to prove, she is attractively weighted on a mark 4lb lower than when winning at Hexham last October.
Castletown continued his good run of form when second in the novices’ handicap chase at Kelso yesterday, just unable to confirm placings with old rival Hidden Commander on 7lb worse terms. Our other runner, Emirat de Catana, didn’t quite see his race out when fifth in the 3m2f handicap hurdle and we’ll probably look to get him back around Perth next time, a track he has won at in the past.
