Mondays at Musselburgh have been a happy hunting ground of late, and two weeks after enjoying success at the track with Diamond State, we recorded a double yesterday afternoon courtesy of Emirat de Catana and Rapid Raider. Emirat de Catana’s success was particularly satisfying as it was a race we had targeted from some way out and it was great to see him get his head back in front for the first time since May 2019. It had certainly been a long time between drinks!
Rapid Raider has simply been a revelation since undergoing wind surgery, yesterday’s strike his third in a row, all over different trips. I’m not sure he was quite at his best yesterday around the sharp turns of Musselburgh, but he still managed to get the job done and that reflects very favourably upon him. There should be even more to come.
There was also a typically game performance from Gemologist who finished with her usual late rattle to claim the runner-up spot in the mares’ handicap hurdle for the second year in a row. She is a long-standing maiden, but always give her all and one of these days a race will fall her way. Surely!
