After the success of Aurora Thunder on New Year’s Day, we have seven runners this afternoon as we head back to Musselburgh with Diamond State bidding to complete a hat-trick in the opening 2m4f conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle. He and Conner have struck up a great partnership and look to have leading claims of extending their winning sequence. We also run Blooriedotcom and Celtic Flames in the same race. A dual course winner, albeit over 2m, Blooriedotcom can be expected to improve upon his recent return to action at Kelso, whilst having been off the track since June, Celtic Flames is likely to need this comeback outing.
Songofthelark is a horse who has been steadily progressing and getting further experience under his belt is the main aim as he lines up in the 2m4f maiden hurdle. He has a bit to find with the market principals and we have handicaps in mind for him after this run.
Musselburgh stalwart Gemologist goes in the 2m handicap hurdle aiming to make it 39th time lucky. Runner-up on no less than ten occasions, including over course and distance just before Christmas, we have refitted the cheekpieces in the hope of eking out that little bit extra. Elmono is another who operates well around Musselburgh and he makes his first start after wind surgery in the 3m handicap chase. He is potentially well handicapped.
Our seventh and final runner on the card is Notnowkate’S in the bumper. Having finished down the field on her debut at Hexham back in April, we expect this sharper track to suit, although she will need to take a big step forward in order to be competitive.
