Monday at Musselburgh

On the back of a fabulous and emotional win for Big River in the Borders National at Kelso yesterday, we move onto Musselburgh this afternoon where we have just the two runners, bookending the card with Songofthelark in the first and Diamond State in the last, both carrying the familiar colours of long-time Musselburgh supporter Gerry McGladery.

Diamond Bidding To Follow Up

Of the two, Diamond State looks to hold the stronger claims as he bids to follow up last month’s impressive course success in the 2m4f handicap hurdle for conditional jockeys. Partnered once again by Conner McCann, who steered him to success on his first ride over hurdles 33 days ago, he steps back up in trip in what looks a more competitive contest. He also has a 7lb higher mark to contend with, but is an improving horse who should be fighting out the finish provided he stays the distance.

Step Up For Songofthelark

Songofthelark similarly steps up in trip after running a promising race to be third on his hurdling debut at the start of last month. He is bred to appreciate the extra yardage, but this is a deeper race and we’d be delighted with another top-three finish.
