Step Above

We consistently strive to improve the quality of our string and are delighted to welcome another new arrival in the form of Step Above, a recent Irish point-to-point winner purchased at this week’s Tattersalls May National Hunt Sale in Newmarket.

A son of the exciting young stallion Jet Away, this 16.3 hands high, good moving, progressive youngster is for sale so please check out our For Sale page or contact the office for further details.

Flat Action

Continuing the theme of stepping above, Thewaytothestars exceeded our expectations when finishing a close third on her debut for the yard in the 7f fillies’ novice at Haydock yesterday, beaten just 1½ lengths in a driving finish. Taking on some highly-rated rivals, she briefly looked like coming through to win entering the final furlong and will surely be capable of winning a similar event in the coming weeks.

Also on the Flat, Engles Rock met trouble in running in a messy race at Hamilton on Wednesday and a line can be swiftly drawn through her effort. She’ll soon bounce back.

Kelso Sunday

We return to jumping action at Kelso on Sunday with three runners, the first of whom is Pasture Beach in the opening novice hurdle. Pasture Beach showed good progression from her first to second start over hurdles when fourth at Hexham last time but will come into her own once handicapping over longer trips.

Next up is Emirat de Catana who would be a popular winner on the 3m2f handicap hurdle running in the colours of the Kelso Lowflyers. Successful at Musselburgh in December, he was better than the bare form of his recent fourth at Perth and would have an each-way chance on ground that will suit.

Having taken 23 starts to get off the mark over fences, Castletown bids to follow up a recent course and distance success in the novices’ handicap chase. He needs to confirm form with the reopposing Hidden Commander on 7lb worse terms but this is another small-field affair and one we believe will play to his strengths.
