Summer Days

We’re back in racing action this week with intended runners at Musselburgh, Worcester, Perth, Market Rasen and Ayr, kicking off this evening with Cuban Cigar in the 2m handicap at Musselburgh.

A winner on just his second start for the yard over hurdles at Kelso in March, Cuban Cigar found 1m1f around Musselburgh too sharp on his return to the Flat at the start of the month, finishing last of the five runners that day. He takes a big hike in trip tonight and it will be interesting to see how he fares.

Wednesday Duo

The box will make the short journey back to Musselburgh on Wednesday when Thewaytothestars bids to build on an encouraging stable debut in the 1m Restricted Maiden Fillies’ Stakes. The form of her close third at Haydock was franked when the winner went on to finish second at Royal Ascot and a reproduction of that effort would give her every chance. Also on Wednesday, we make the slightly (!) longer trip down to Worcester where Izzy’s Champion lines up in the 2m4f handicap chase. He hasn’t been at his best in two starts since winning at Musselburgh in March, but we think he’ll enjoy the chase course at Worcester and he’s handicapped to run well if bringing his A-game.

Deauville Dreaming

Away from the track, there is the Arqana Summer Sale taking place this week in Deauville where we’ll be looking to add some more exciting youngsters to our string. We’ve enjoyed good success out of this sale in the past having bought the likes of Haute Estime and Spark of Madness on previous visits and there are some choicely-bred individuals on offer this week. A link to the catalogue, comprising breeze-up and store horses, mares and horses in training can be found below:
