We have three runners tomorrow afternoon, with Green Vault and Sutton Manor heading down to Bangor and Engles Rock going on the all-weather at Newcastle.
Both of our contenders at Bangor line up the 2m7f handicap hurdle as Green Vault and Sutton Manor take on six rivals. Our main hope according to the betting is Green Vault, who turns out quickly in a bid to follow up Sunday’s success at Ayr. We wouldn’t normally run a horse so soon, but the fact he escapes a penalty for Sunday’s win has encouraged us to take our chance. Alan Doyle retains the ride, and due to the conditions of the race, he is able to claim 7lb as opposed to the 5lb he claimed at Ayr, meaning that Green Vault is in effect racing off a 2lb lower mark. As such, he looks to have plenty in his favour as he aims to complete a quick-fire double.
Compared to the novice Green Vault, the 11-y-o Sutton Manor is at the opposite end of his career, but he showed he still has something to offer when fifth at Hexham last month and we expect the step back up in trip to suit. He’ll love the ground and could easily sneak into the first three at an each-way price.
Across at Newcastle, Engles Rock looks to land a second course and distance win in the concluding 1m handicap. Having travelled strongly when sixth over 1¼m just before Christmas, we believe she’ll appreciate coming back in trip and have refitted the cheekpieces to aid her concentration in the closing stages. She has an each-way chance in a competitive race.
