Weekly Wrap

A quiet week on the racing front, with no runners since Carlisle last Sunday, a day that failed to yield any winners but saw Speak of The Devil and Well Above Par run better than their finishing positions of fourth and sixth would suggest and Its A Midnight make a very encouraging debut when fifth in the mares’ bumper.

Homework

On the home front, the team have been working hard to prepare the horses for a busy festive period, one where we hope to be represented by Ahoy Senor in the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton and Mighty Thunder in the Welsh Grand National. With big meetings closer to home at Musselburgh, Kelso and Ayr also coming up, it really will be ‘all go’ in the next few weeks.

Estime Aiming To Step Up At Haydock

More immediately, we have four runners spread across two tracks tomorrow afternoon with chances at both Haydock and Newcastle. Haute Estime flies the flag down at Haydock as she takes on some highly-rated rivals in the 2m3f listed mares’ novice. She has a bit to find at the weights, but the step up in trip and softer ground should really play to her strengths and we think she is capable of finishing in the first four.

Newcastle Trio

The first of our three contenders at Newcastle is Royal Reserve who runs in the 2m handicap hurdle. A horse who has missed a chunk of time through injury in the past couple of years, it was great to see him bounce back to form when third at Ayr last time. He’ll need to build on that here, but he’s down in grade and is a previous course and distance winner.

West End Lady makes a relatively quick reappearance having run at Kelso less than two weeks ago, but we thought this mares’ handicap hurdle looked a good opportunity for her. The return to a more galloping track will certainly be in her favour. Our final runner comes in the juvenile bumper with Snow Joeking set to make his debut in the 1m6f event. ‘Snowy’ is from a family we know well, but he’s more of a long-term prospect and is sure to come on plenty for the run.
