After a weekend filled with second and thirds, it was great to get back on the scoresheet with Well Above Par in the 2m4f handicap chase at Carlisle yesterday. The rain arrived in time and he produced a bold display of jumping and galloping under a positive ride from Derek to see off the strong-travelling runner-up. With form figures of 211 over this course and distance, he clearly operates well around Carlisle and we may look to target another race back there in a month’s time.
We were hopeful of doubling up in the following race, but unfortunately Stylish Moment fell five out when in a dispute of the lead. Thankfully, both he and Patrick walked away unscathed and we live to fight another day.
We still nearly went close to recording a double with Engles Rock finishing second on the all-weather at Newcastle. Travelling smoothly from off the pace, she was produced with her challenge deep inside the final furlong but just found the winner pulling out a little extra close home. With that particular rival completing a four-timer, the race appeals as being strong form and she looks capable of resuming winning ways in the near future.
The rest of the week is set to be a little quieter on the racing front, but Paul, Scu and I will be heading to the Cheltenham Sales on Friday in the quest to unearth future stars. Always on the lookout for talented recruits as we continue to drive the yard forward, there is a strong catalogue of over 60 horses, primarily Irish pointers, so please do get in touch if you’re interested in purchasing.
